Your 9-point Road to a Winter-Proof Makeup

Winters can make the joy of applying makeup seem like agony – what with its dry air, windburn, patchy skin, and so on.

But, no need to despair! We have here 9 easy and awesome tips to help you treat yourself with a winter-proof makeup this season.

Always Cleanse Your Skin

Again, the weather turning cold and air turning dry are the worst possible things that Winters can do to one’s skin. Therefore, cleansing is a ritual that you should not skip any day, especially on the days that you apply makeup. Go for a creamy cleanser this winter instead of a gel-based on to help maintain the hydration of the skin. Massage the cleanser to your face in a gentle manner, and then remove it using cotton pads.

Blend in Moisturizer with Your Foundation

Winters can exaggerate the dryness of skin, especially as you apply your foundation. You can take care of the problem by mixing foundation and a decent moisturizer in equal parts before you apply it your face.

Don’t let your eye makeup get smudged

The worst part of this beautiful season is the wintery winds that can cause your makeup to play havoc on your face. Because these winds can make your eyes tear up anytime, always wear waterproof mascara, and avoid applying kajal as it could get easily smudged. Instead, wear eyeliner on your upper eyelid.

Always Set Your Makeup

Keeping makeup in place by applying a layer of pressed powder on the face after you’re done with your makeup can be very effective. Otherwise, you could get your makeup rubbed off of on your scarf or coat. Also, pressed powder is better than loose powder which can get really messy really easily.

Use your Blush!

Applying blush is an important part of the whole makeup regimen. Blush is what makes a washed-out face come all alive. So, choose your blush according to your complexion – like, peachy hued if you are fair skinned – and sweep it onto the highest point on your cheekbones. Don’t apply blush to the apples of your cheeks – it’s a common mistake women make.

Never Leave Without Wearing Sunscreen

The one regimen you should religiously follow this winter is, apply your sunscreen. You may find that advice surprising because people usually rhyme sunscreens with the hot summers, but the UV rays don’t even spare the winters. Cultivate the habit of applying a broad spectrum sunscreen every 2-3 hours and skin will thank you forever!

Keep Your Skin Dehydrated

Winters tend to give your skin dry patches which even good makeup is ineffective in making look good. Instead, use a gentle exfoliant at least once a week, followed by applying a good moisturizer while the skin is still a bit damp. And don’t forget to drink lots of water too!

Don’t Let Windburn Get in Your Way!

Winters are always notorious for giving wind-burns! Never leave a place without moisturizing your skin amply, and always carry a scarf with you to protect your face on those blustery days.

Get Rid of Flaky Skin

Before going to bed every night, apply either a richly moisturizing night cream, or a good hydrating mask for about 15 minutes or so. If there’s a bit excess of the cream or mask on your face, you can remove it by pressing a facial tissue that will readily absorb it. This is a great way to get rid of flaky skin; you will see the effect in just a night.
